What is Addiction? Gabor Maté offers a true defection of why a person, their life falling down around them, continues to numb their minds and bodies with addictive drugs. I have been working with intravenous drug users for the past twelve months with some truly beautiful souls who, sadly, are unable to stop using. One thing that they all seem to have in common is that they have suffered trauma at some point in life. Deadening pain may have started as a short term thing but the feeling of being pain free, even for the briefest of moments, can be an enormous pulling force in continuing drug use.

We all have an inner voice. Sometimes it can be the greatest gift but at other times it can be our greatest critic. New research shows that mindfulness may help us to stop our inner critic from comparing ourselves to others.
