Image
I recently spent one month in a pain management rehab for a sever fibromyalgia flare up which coincided with a CPTSD flare up. The knowledge that I gained from the physiotherapist merged so very well with my knowledge as a trauma counsellor. Once again, gentle but regular transformation of thoughts and behaviours, build helpful new neural pathways, offering hope and release from past unhelpful, painful symptoms.

Telling People to Forgive is Gaslighting in Disguise : By Ruth Parchment

I absolutely understand forgiving the small stuff, but when some one in a caring or respected role,  knowingly, and continuously abuses, manipulates and degrades your self esteem and physical body for a life time, and can see no wrongdoing in their behaviours, the act of Forgiveness can seem a bazar and dangerous decision to make.

This is an excellent and informative article. Science backed modalities are not the only forms of therapy that work for trauma recovery.  As a trauma therapist who practices Creative Arts Therapies, Animal Assisted Psychotherapy and Talk therapy, I have witnessed clients find their freedom while sitting in my home environment.
Many of my clients have had poor modeling from their caregivers as children.  Poor self regulation, lack of grounding, inner critic bombardment and self-sabotage perpetuate the cruel voices of many of the adults who were supposed to be their protectors and role models as infants, children and adolescents. The combination of these three modalities, practiced in a calm family home, seem to offer my clients an opportunity to safely explore new experiences and ways of being present.

You may (or may not) have noticed that my posts have been a bit space of late. This has been due to a re-awakening of symptoms of Complex P.T.S.D. Frightening memories and present day betrayal and denial of my needs from important figures in my life, temporarily shattered my sense of self. It was as if I was a child again. Unable to navigate my emotions, not knowing what day it was and being unable to connect to my own needs. I experiences internal and external pain due to Fibromyalgia, and was hospitalised for one month. While in hospital, I painted...………….and painted.

A massive part of my recovery over many years has been to engage in creative processes of many kinds and to practice body focused interventions enabling self-regulation. Processing through Creativity brings me back to Self.
This article by Cathy Malchiodi offers insights into how Creative Arts Processes offer safe methods of self exploration, amongst other positive healing and calming practices connecting the mind, bo…
