Listen to children when they bravely work up the courage to disclose sexual and/or physical abuse. You may be the last person left that they can trust. Mairead Ashcroft 24/7/16

One year on, after a 17 year battle, since Brother Bernard Joseph Hartman fro St Paul's College was sentenced for his crimes of Childhood Sexual Abuse. Here were my thoughts on the day. "Today's events have really taken it out of me. I am so tired, and my head aches. 3 years with one suspended. Once Hartman serves his 2 years in jail he will be sent back to the States. I know that this short term might anger some but please keep in mind that most perpetrators of historical crime serve no sentence at all. My heart goes out to all of the survivors who have undergone the harrowing experience of facing their abuser to have the offender walk free. Please see today as a progressive step in the right direction. 2 years for three counts of sexual crimes of the most severe nature and 4 other crimes of assault are worth a LOT more than a short 2 years."

My life has progressed and although I feel that I may be in a state of recovery for the rest of my life, I am surrou…

For those who don't know yet, I am in the process and writing and illustrating an interactive self reflective book to promote personal well being, interpersonal connection and mind, body and spiritual involvement to our environment and the benefits of these connections to one's well being. environmental . The foundation of the book are bases on the teachings of the cultural significance of sacred circles in many forms and within many cultures, for example the Tibetan Mandala, Native American Medicine Wheel, Celtic Cross and The flower of Life to name a few. I also encourage individual appreciation for the seemingly universal archetypal values of the teachings of cultural sacred circles. throught the practices of Mindfulness, Focusing and reflection.

Smiling Mind - “The world needs mindfulness and in this fast-paced, stressed and distracted world, the children of today probably need it more than any previous generation. Smiling Mind is taking Mindfulness Meditation to where it is needed most – into the hearts and minds of young people. It’s more than just a technique, and more than just a life-skill. Mindfulness is a way of life.” (Dr Craig Hassed) I use this tool and can highly recommend this free easy to follow Mindfulness app and web site.

The Circle of Genuine Meaning is a book that I have been developing (writing and illustrating) for a number of years. It is an interactive guide to self discovery and introspection based on the wisdoms from elders past. The Circle of Genuine Meaning incompasses knowlege gained by sacred circles and medicine wheels from numerous cultures spanning Mother Earth. This book promotes balance of mind, body and spirit. I offer you a taste by sharing the first few paragraphs. I hope you enjoy them. I expect to go into print later this year. Mairead Ashcroft 4/7/16

Circle of Genuine Meaning ©: The originsLearning about the world and my place in it, is a conquest that I don’t feel needs to be conquered but one to dance, sing and be enthralled. Learning about my mind, body, spirit and life’s personal meaning, involves individual searching, some scary experiences, joy, sorrow, loss, discovery and wonder. Practicing the Circle of genuine meaning guides me to ask myself, on a daily basis, “Am I happy with how I lived my life today? If not, why not? What do I need to change about myself, my thought patterns, my values and/or my environment to enhance my lived experience, making it a more genuine gift to me and my community, no matter how small?” The Japanese term, ‘Wabi-Sabi’, promotes finding beauty in imperfections and accepting the cycle of life and death. This attitude is important to practice when connecting to place, nature, spirit, community and self. Acceptance and understanding of deficiency in self and others can be challenging but can manif…
