The acronym NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. 
NAIDOC Week is a time of observance and respect in Australia on the first Sunday in July and ending on the following Sunday. 
Born in 1938 as a Day of Mourning, in 1975 it grew into a week-long event that celebrates the 60.000 year history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 
NAIDOC Week is a time for reflectoion and celebration for all Australians ans provides valuable opportunities for all of us to learn more about the oldest living culture in history and the controbutions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia and all over the world today in all fields.
