Massage - From the exotic and strange to the more commonly known practices: What are they and how do they work? Mairead Ashcroft 5/4/17
There are many different types of massage and energy healing techniques that are available under the banner of holistic health. I am no expert on massage and am not educated in the large variety of services provided to offer care for specific needs. But I do know that what ever practice you choose, it is important that you only work with a qualified practitioner. You should be warned that just because something is labeled holistic or natural does not guarantee it's suitability to an individual persons needs. Holistic practice means looking at the whole of the person: health and well being of mind, body, spirit, values, economic and intellectual capabilities, environment, support network, needs, wants, dreams, goals, suffering, trauma and much much more. Working in a holistic way means much more than lighting a candle and saying Nameste as you greet some one while wearing harem pants. Any practitioner should take their healing gift very seriously. Training to master the craft, whatever that may be, should be of the highest dedication and respect in order to offer clients only the best. There are some side show type of practices (too many to mention) that may take advantage of people who are at their most vulnerable. What I would like to point out today are some beneficial massage and energy practices that fall under the holistic term. The first link explores strange and exotic massage and the rest are some of the more commonly known practices, what they are and how they work.
